The Rick family wanted all the most sought-after items when it comes to a finished basement. The plans for this basement finishing project included a bar, theater room, a family room with a fireplace, a lower level office and full bathroom.
When the Country Creek Builders team first met with the Rick family to start the design phase for their basement finishing project, it didn’t take long to get excited about it The Rick family wanted all the most sought-after items when it comes to a finished basement. The plans included a bar, theater room, a family room with a fireplace, a lower level office, and full bathroom.
The first step with any basement finishing project is to complete an ‘As Built’ design. This is the floor plan of the basement as it currently sits – unfinished. Country Creek Builders uses the most recent technology to ensure that the ‘As Built’ is as accurate as possible. As such has invested in a Galaxy tablet and a blue tooth digital laser. When a room is measured with the laser, the measurement is automatically transferred to the tablet. The ‘As Built’ plan is then generated as the existing rooms are measured. This process will ensure that all existing conditions including walls, windows and doors, are included. Once all the measurements are taken and transferred to the tablet, the plan is up loaded to the cloud. Back at the Country Creek Builders office, I can download the plan from the cloud, import it into our architectural program, and start the proposed plan for the project. This process saves time and helps prevent extra trips to re-measure, which can cause delays with the first revision of the proposed plans.
The final design for this Apple Valley basement finishing project included an office with a theater room that showcased raised platform seating and theater lighting, two recessed niches for movie posters and a 7-1 surround sound audio system by Jamo. The family room portion included a fireplace with a TV with storage area for the audio equipment, and a walk-up bar.The bar cabinetry was designed with frameless construction and built with Cherry wood in a Shaker style hosting oil rubbed bronze hardware. The bar included an ice maker and a under counter wine fridge. Two upper cabinet doors were finished with clear glass separated by a cross hatch wine bottle storage area. The granite selected for the bar is Cosmic Blue and the tile for the splash is Glass Dune Subway tile. The floor tile in the bar area is a Mountain Slate Iron 20 X 20 tile.
We installed a Cosmo 32” modern fireplace to bring a warm and inviting feeling to this family room. We placed reclaimed ship wood and a Natural Brown split-faced piano strip stone around the fireplace unit. An accent strip of the limestone hearth was used above the split-faced stone to give the stone and reclaimed wood a clean separation, and to tie into the limestone hearth.
The shower in this bathroom was tiled with the same warm textures and colors as the rest of the basement. An Imperial Taupe Glass subway tile was installed on the shower walls and ceiling and Legno 3” hex tile was placed on the shower floor. The Mountain Slate tile that was used in the bar area was carried over into the bathroom floor, again for continuity. Frameless shower doors with oil rubbed bronze hardware were fabricated and installed to give this shower an unobstructed view of the amazing tile work.
Country Creek Builders prefers Sherwin Williams paint on all our projects. Over the years, we have learned that there are differences in the quality of the paint from a reputable paint store over the big box stores. The theater room walls were painted with Sherwin Williams “Porpoise”. The Theater room niches were painted with “Anonymous” and the family room was painted with “Balanced Beige”. The trim and doors were painted “Dover” white to bring in a lighter color. This basement finishing project turned out better then the homeowners had hoped and envisioned. The plans gave them a clear picture of what the project would look like before Country Creek Builders even started the project. Let us know if we can help you create the basement of your dreams.
