Country Creek Builders Project: Prior Lake Remodel

For the past 14 years, our Country Creek Builders team has made it our mission to complete the highest quality remodeling jobs for every single homeowner. Last year, our team tackled an exciting job on a lake house in Prior Lake, MN. Because this home was built in the ‘70s, we noticed that a garage slab placed above the guest bedroom was deteriorating, so we corrected the problem before starting the entire main-floor remodel. Over the next 3 months, we remodeled the kitchen, bathroom, dining area, family room, and guest bedroom, with the addition of a walk-in steam shower.

Contemporary Kitchen

At Country Creek Builders, the preferences of the homeowners we work with always come first. These homeowners wanted specific additions that would create a sleek, contemporary feel throughout their kitchen. These changes included Hickory cabinets with inset doors and drawers, maple interiors, dovetail soft-close under-mount drawer boxes, and paneled ends on the base and upper cabinets.

The biggest kitchen addition these homeowners wanted was a single-level island with a 48” gas cooktop and oven. Due to the large size of the cooktop, we installed a custom-designed stainless-steel hood vent to the ceiling just above it. Our other renovations included Negresso brushed granite countertops, doors and trim throughout (stained to match the kitchen cabinets), and a wet bar.

Beautiful Bathroom:

It’s safe to say that the main bathroom is any home’s most intimate and personal space — it’s where homeowners go to start their mornings and relax in the evenings, and in a beautiful lake home like this one, it’s where guests freshen up during a dinner party, weekend brunch, or extended visit.

Together, we decided to turn the old shower into an elegant walk-in steam shower, which we knew would provide the utmost comfort and relaxation. For the shower tile, we added 8” x 24” Noir Honed Black Travertine tile from the Tile Shop, and used Black Cobble tile on the shower floor, which matches the walls. The accent tile we used was Noir Navajo Travertine architectural style. 

Within the frameless, ⅜” shower glass, we included a gorgeous door with two stationary panels and one operable transom panel located above the door. The homeowners personally chose brushed nickel hardware to add trendy touches to the shower. Finally, because they particularly wanted an area by the bathroom where their guests could conveniently store their personal items while enjoying the lake, we designed a contemporary wooden locker cabinet with ample storage (and style to match).

Solid Main Floor:

With the main floor of this beautiful lake home situated on the lower level, it initially rested on a concrete floor. From years of wet foot traffic from family and guests, the homeowners recognized that they desired a more durable floor. Most importantly, they wanted a floor that felt “worry-free.” 

Of course, we agreed and knew exactly what to do — we removed the carpet and created an easy-to-clean floor that not only functioned better, but looked better. After searching through the options we provided, the homeowners chose a stained and textured concrete floor, which we gave a smooth, contemporary finish.
