When the Hage Family started meeting contractors about a basement redesign project, they received many conflicting approaches, until Country Creek Builders.
When the Hage family from Eagan, Minnesota started meeting with contractors to discuss their desired basement finishing project, they were surprised by the different approaches that contractors took to determine the design and price for their basement project. One contractor that they met with did not draw plans or have a design service. Another contractor gave them a lump sum estimate for their basement without ever measuring the area, drawing plans or taking pictures. Another contractor gave a written estimate that was one and a half pages long. The Hages were frustrated with the lack of detail, information and the fact that contractors did not listen to their ideas and concerns. After meeting with Country Creek Builders, they knew that they had found the right contractor for their basement finishing project. Country Creek Builders listened to what they wanted plus we offered full design service and selection assistance for all our projects. After checking out Country Creek Builders on Angie’s List and seeing the A ratings and reviews, they hired Country Creek to help them with their project.DESIGN – THE FIRST STEPAfter measuring their basement and taking pictures, Country Creek Builders started the design phase for this project. Country Creek Builders completed the first revision and met with their clients to go through the design, get their input and listen to their ideas. After making a few revisions, the plans were finalized and an appointment was made to start the selections. Country Creek Builders met with the Hages at the cabinet shop to finalize the cabinet design including door style, stain color and hardware. After the cabinets were finalized, Country Creek Builders assisted the Hages with the countertops for the bar and bathroom, along with the tile. Having Country Creek Builders assist with the design and selections made the process fun and exciting.ESTIMATING – A DETAILED PROCESSOnce the basement design was completed, the detailed estimating process could be finalized. The detailed estimate for the Hage basement was over sixteen pages long. The transparency and line item detail showed the exact cost of each item by separating material costs from labor costs. When Country Creek Builders estimates a project, we spend the time up front preparing the estimate to prevent unexpected costs during the project.THE FINISHED PROJECTAs you can see from the pictures, this basement project turned out perfect. Soffits were designed to hide the heating ducts and barn doors were used to eliminate any door swing issues that would encroach into the family room. An eleven-wine bottle storage rack was also designed by the bar area to make use of the dead space area by the mechanical room. The cabinets for the bar and bathroom were made with Clear Alder wood and designed with a flat panel door and 3 ¼” Crown moldings that were stained with Sherwin Williams Danish Walnut. Three panel cherry interior doors were selected to match the upper level and stained to match the bar, except for the jambs and trim which were painted Dover White. The Countertops that were selected were Iceland Quartz. To tie in the wood stain of the doors and cabinets, A Riviera Beach Stria Glass Deco tile was used for the bar back splash. The tile that was selected for the bar floor area was Bosco Argent 8 X 34” contemporary grey wood looking tile. The window jambs were stained to compliment the bar cabinetry and the window trim was painted white to match the door trim. The Hages were very pleased with the finished product and how smooth the process was.
