Designing For Tight Spaces

Country Creek Builders can help you design the basement of your dream. Even if the spacing is tight in the area you are remodeling.

Lakeville MN Basement Finishing Project

When the Seigworth family contacted Country Creek Builders to discuss their basement finishing ideas, a design meeting was scheduled to review their existing basement. A few items were extremely important for this busy Lakeville, Minnesota family.

The list of wants included:
  • a wet bar area
  • close to the family room so that they could enjoy movies and gaming together
  • an area for the pool table
  • an additional TV area, including a Gaming council.

Due to the existing location of the roughed-in plumbing for the future bathroom and the width of the basement, we knew that the design ideas would have to involve some tight spaces.

To check off the important items on their list, the design involved relocating the roughed-in bathroom, which opened an area large enough for the pool table. A narrow bar had to be designed to keep the wet bar close to the family room, and the raised snack bar would take some creative design work.

A SMALL AND USEFUL WET BAR

The home wet bar for this Lakeville, Minnesota basement was customized and designed using Oakwood and stained with Valspar Dark Cherry Stain. The important features on the list of wants for this bar included seating for four, a sink, an under-counter fridge, and storage for wine glasses and bottles.

A Lazy Susan was designed into the corner of the bar to provide a much-needed storage area. The upper cabinets included a center cross bar wine bottle storage area and added stemware holders for wine glasses. A glass copper mix tile was installed for the bar backsplash area.

A FAMILY ROOM FOR RELAXING AND GAMING

The design for the family room area had to incorporate built-in cabinets that would fit an 80” TV with a place for all of the audio and satellite equipment and an area for storing video games and board games. The built-in cabinets were designed with raised panel doors, concealed hinges, and three ¼” Crown molding and stained to match the bar.

THE FINISHED PROJECT

As you can see from the pictures, finding a contractor with the experience to design your project before the construction begins ensures that most – if not all – of your wants can be included in your basement project. This basement project turned out better than the homeowners had envisioned. The plans gave them a clear picture of what the project would look like even before Country Creek Builders even started the project.
