A Great Master Bathroom Remodel Starts with a Great Design

When I first meet with homeowners to discuss their master bathroom remodel, the first question I ask is, “What do you dislike about your bathroom?” This question starts an incredible exchange of ideas on what the homeowner want in their Eagan, Minnesota Bathroom transformation.

When I first meet with homeowners to discuss their master bathroom remodels, I first ask, “What do you dislike about your bathroom?” This question starts an incredible exchange of ideas on what the homeowner wants in their Eagan, Minnesota, Bathroom transformation.

After taking pictures and detailed measurements of the existing bathroom, the design process begins. Country Creek Builders uses Chief Architect for their designs, a program that shows homeowners a 3d view of their project, wall elevations, and detailed cabinet drawings.

Once the design is completed, Chief Architect provides the square footage, linear footage, and materials required to complete the project. These numbers are what help us provide our clients with a detailed estimate.

Country Creek Builders believes in providing a detailed estimate to our clients. The only correct way to achieve this is with a detailed design and plan; without those, an estimate would be a guess of the cost of a project. The design of this Eagan, Minnesota bathroom included:

  • Custom Cabinetry
  • Custom flooring details
  • Electrical Layout

The design is then sent to our suppliers and vendors, such as Felder Electric, Designed Cabinets, and Credit River Granite, for detailed pricing.

A Detailed Estimate Means Less Chance Of Unexpected Surprises

After Country Creek Builders receives pricing from its suppliers and vendors, we draft a detailed estimate. A Country Creek Estimate details the tile materials separate from the tile labor; the plumbing fixtures separate from the plumbing labor; detailed cabinet pricing, detailed countertop pricing; permit fees, design fees, demo, etc. The estimate for the master bath project can be close to ten pages or longer, depending on the design.

The first estimate can have allowances for plumbing fixtures, tile, and granite. The allowances give the ability to make selections knowing exactly how those selections might impact the project's final cost. Country Creek Builders revises the estimate to reflect those selections. The design and estimating process take time, but the time should be spent first.

Barrier Free Shower

If during the first meeting, the homeowners express their desire for a curbless walk-in shower without a shower door, they can be confident in Country Creek Builders extensive experience designing and installing curbless showers. We use the Schluter System on all bathroom projects, based on personal installation experience, to ensure a waterproof, trouble-free shower.

Eagan Bathroom Transformation

In the Eagan bathroom transformation, Country Creek Builders completely demoes the bathroom, removed a window so a larger window could be installed, removed a soaking tub to make room for the walk-in shower, moved the toilet's location, and removed the vanity and the tiled floor. After the demo was completed, the bathroom was re-wired, re-plumbed, and then sheetrocked.

A Curbless Shower

To build a trouble-free curbless shower, Country Creek Builders lowers the subfloor in the shower area. Lowering the floor is required to get the correct pitch from the shower's threshold to the drain. Rather than installing around the drain, we install a trench drain to ensure the water drains smoothly. Country Creek Builders can then install the Spokane Light Brown Matt 30 X 60 CM tile for the shower walls; Meram Blanc Carrara polished 30 X 45 CM tile for the bathroom and shower floor.

Custom Cabinetry

The Eagan homeowners wanted a make-up area that was separate from the vanity. Country Creek Builders designed a new make-up cabinet plus a custom vanity with matching mirror frames. The cabinets were paint grade cabinets with Maple melamine interiors; the doors were flat panel doors, and the drawers were soft close drawers; the color of the vanity and makeup counter was Sherwin Williams "Griffin".

As part of the design process – detailed cabinet drawings are produced so that the homeowner knows exactly what the cabinets will look like. As you can see from the project pictures, the design and estimating process is critical to ensure a project that meets the homeowner’s expectations.
